Printable: Teaching: What Groups Means

We love to have students work in groups. Not all students know how to stay on task. This is a great printable to keep them on task and what it means to work in a group after you have set up your expectations.

Printable: Lyrics: Bridge Over Troubled Water

We love our friends. We love our family. Whatever support system you have - well, you love them. We, as humans, have a hard time asking for help or even admitting we need help. That's why it's great to have the support system that steps in without asking, just in recognizing you may be drowning.  That is the inspiration for today's printable. This song has always been a favorite and one I go to when I need to remind myself to get help.  Enjoy!

Printable: Disney: The Incredibles

My favorite character from the movie The Incredibles is hands down Edna Mode.  She has a strong personality of , "Go confront the problem. Fight! Win! And call me when you get back, darling." attitude. And she has another quote that  also makes a lot of sense.  Edna doesn't look back, it distracts from the now.  And that is a big thing to get.  I'm constantly dwelling and picking apart things that have already happened, focused on how they will come back to haunt me.  I'm not living in the moment.  I'm not enjoying what is right in front of me.  If it's in the past, it's happened. It's done and that's not where our focus should be.  How many students have I told to move on, let it go?  Time for me to step up and be that example.  So here is Edna's reminder to not look back.

Printable: Faith: 1 John 4:18

I'm afraid of lots of things. I'm afraid of things that are silly.  I get so scared that at times I can be paralyzed.  But God has me and if I have love and Him, I can show all that I can do.  And not other people but myself.  Mostly I need to show myself what I can really do.  And so this is my reminder not to be afraid

Printable: Motivational: The Luckiest People

We, as humans, have a universal flaw.  We speak more loudly and expound more fully on the wrongs. We complain.  I'm guilty of it too.  I always have to put in an effort of being positive, staying positive and seeing positive.  I was thinking recently that I have it good.  Is it perfect? Not by a long shot but man I have a good life.  I love my job.  I love my boss and co-workers.  I love, love, love Superman and Cupcake.  How boring would life be without them?  So I have to remind myself of it. So I made this.  Enjoy!

Disney: Recommendation: Restaurant: Coral Reef

Ever wanted to dine under the sea?  Well in Disney, you can!  Today, we're going to talk about one of my favorite places to dine - Coral Reef

Park: EPCOT
Area: Future World West
Coral Reef Menu

My first trip to Disney was in June of 1988.  I actually turned 5 while we were there.  I don't have many memories of that vacation but some are still crystal clear.  One such memory was exploring the giant aquarium at EPCOT.  I could have stayed there all day.  I love the water, I love the ocean and for the longest time I wanted to be a marine biologist.  To my happy surprise for dinner my parents took us to the restaurant at the aquarium!  I don't remember a thing about the meal, but I do remember being right next to the aquarium and watching all the fishies swim by.  I rediscovered Coral Reef on our 2013 Disney trip.  The food is delicious!  Whether you are having something from the sea or from the land they've got something you're looking for.  I love the decor with its blues and greens and mosaic tiles.  It's just a great place to rest your feet and fill up on delicious Disney.  Superman has had the seafood and always says "this place knows how to do it right." (He's picky about his seafood).  I've had both the chicken and steak and both were fabulous, tender and juicy.  Cupcake loves getting pizza off the menu but has recently discovered shrimp so it'll be interesting to see if she'll try something new on our next visit.  And your dinner is just the beginning because the dessert is mouthwatering.  My husband swears by the Chocolate Wave while I love the Turtle Cheesecake that comes out as a sea turtle.   Point being you can't go wrong here.  Go and try it - you won't be disappointed.

Enjoying Coral Reef in 2014

Printable: Teaching: Cardinal Direction Signs

I don't know about you but always somewhere in my social studies book, no matter the publisher, we always went over the 4 cardinal directions and I always hung the signs in my room of those 4 directions.  I've done this a few times and I finally made a set I love.  I hope you love them to.  The pictures aren't linkable to anywhere since they are a freebie set from my TpT store so just follow the link at the bottom.  Enjoy!

Printable: Lyrics: Breeze Off the River

One summer day, my best friend and I, took off for a day of fun in New York City.  We did some shopping, we saw the matinee' of The Lion King (which blew my mind and 'Can You Feel the Love Tonight?' was so beautiful it brought a tear to my eye).  We spent a good chunk of our morning scouting for the best show to get student tickets from (we were in the summer after our freshmen year at college).  If we weren't in the top row of the balcony, we had an obstructed view, so we kept going from place to place when as a last resort we went to see what The Full Monty had to offer.  I knew this musical was a hit, it had been nominated for Best Musical in the year's Tony Awards.  I had, however, seen the movie and wasn't sure what they were going to do to translate it on stage....with songs.... But when we inquired about student tickets we had hit the jackpot - front row, baby!  The catch?  They weren't together.  For front row? I'll see you in 3 hours, BF.  When we got to the show we realized why they were separated - the conductor was between us.  So the show blew my mind. It was awesome.  It was funny and so much better than the British movie.  Patrick Wilson (Watchmen, Morning Glory, A-Team, Insidious, The Conjouring) did a great job as the lead.  I also got a slew of new songs to add to my playlist and wear out.  One such song is 'Breeze Off the River' and mainly it's about being a parent and not quite getting it as some other parents do but he just loves his kid.  I loved the song before the Cupcake and it really has place in my heart now that I'm her mom.  You see blog post after video after article of parent's who are more creative, more patient and more together.  They seem to have parenting figured out, they know something I don't.  They are in on the secret.  I'm not.  I'm not a perfect person and by far a perfect mom.  At the end of the day, I love that girl. I love her with depth I didn't know I had.  And more importantly - she knows it.  She knows I love her, she knows I'll be there for her.  And this lyric quote is for those of us who are parents that are human but love our kids to bits.

Printable: Disney: UP

I love the movie UP.  I love the story of Carl and Ellie.  I love to see the relationship between Mr. Fredrickson and Russel.  I love Dug.  And I especially love the UP house.  So, of course, on the first printables I made used the UP house and it's famous phrase, "Adventure is out there." Enjoy!

Printable: Faith: Psalm 51:10

I really needed this one this week and I'm guessing I'm not the only one. Enjoy!

Printable: Motivational: Grateful for this Day

Today has been a day.  Every time we go back to school after a snow day the kids are nuts. So the kids are nuts.  I have 2 events this week.  Come home and our plumbing is a bit haywire.  Not as bad as the past 2 winters but enough to make me want to cry.  I feel like I've been through the ringer.  Not too mention that since the middle of January I've been feeling a bit disenchanted at work and I have to remind myself about every 5 minutes to only focus on what has been given to me and let God deal with everyone else.  It's hard to focus on only one day.  It's hard to remember to be grateful for what I do have, because I have a lot. So I made myself something so I can remember.  Now I share it with you, I hope it can help you as well.

Disney: Recommendation: Ride: Mission: SPACE

You're in Disney so what's the logical thing to do?  Go to Epcot and take a trip to Mars. Absolutely. And you'll have no regrets if you do.
This is Mission:SPACE
Park: Epcot
Area: Future World East
Height: 44 inches
Fastpass + Available

First, I love Epcot.  This is not a park to skip.  It doesn't have the outward flash of the other parks but it has depth.  There is so much to do and explore that you get lost and discover something new each time. Every. single. time.  Do yourself a favor and do not overlook this park.  Future World and World Showcase each have their own individual charm and we take a day for each.  One of my favorite rides at Epcot is Mission: SPACE.  The premise is that you are the first crew to head to Mars.  First choice you need to make is what training you will pick. Orange is high intensity (the ride spins like a centrifuge).  It will make you sick to your stomach.  We opt for Green training (the ride doesn't spin) and it's the exact same ride without feeling sick to your stomach for 2 hours after.  Also green never has a long line.  It's only 10 minutes max.  Meaning we don't waste a fastpass on it.
The best part - the stuff you find when you are leaving.  Unlike other Disney rides, this doesn't directly dump you into the merchandise.  Nope, you end up in a play place where the kids that are still too small can play (remember ride swap is an awesome thing) and there is also games the bigger kids can play at being mission control.  This is always a must do.

I didn't forget about the next binder cover, the next subject is English!  I hope you've been able to collect them all so far! Enjoy!

Disney: Recommendation: Children's Activity Centers

We make vacations in synonymous with rest and relaxation.  When it comes to Disney...well, Disney vacations aren't a vacation in the rest and relaxation sense.  They are fun but they are not restful.  When you come home you need a vacation from your vacation ' cause ya know, you need to rest and relax.
This is 5 days into our 2013 trip (the Cupcake was 5) - it was the halfway mark.  She seems pretty done here.

So how do you get a night off? When is it time for adult talk in a restaurant with no characters?  Enter the Walt Disney World's Children's Activity Centers.  The past 2 times we've gone to Disney, Superman and I have done 2 date nights and Cupcake has gone to the Activity Center for her own night of fun.  She has loved it! They feed them dinner and she always comes home with a bagful of crafts and coloring and stories of all the fun she's had.  The first time we did The Neverland Club at The Polynesian (has since been refurbished, more on that below) and the second was the Cub's Den at Fort Wilderness Lodge.  Disney World has 5 Children's Activity Centers throughout.  It's for ages 3-12 (everyone has to be potty trained) and are open evenings from 4-Midnight.
The 5 locations are...

*These locations offer extra programming (physics, cooking, pirate training, etc.)

Cupcake's first experience was at The Neverland Club (she was way into Peter Pan at the time) and loved climbing through Wendy's window to get in.  Since then it has been refurbished and turned into Lilo's Playhouse (on theme with the Polynesian).  Cupcake saw all the changes on YouTube and would go every night if we'd let her.
The best part - we've never worried about her.  All staff members we've come across have been warm and friendly and Cupcake only had praise for everyone she's played and interacted with.  We're both excited for Date Night and Cupcake's Night Off this trip.

Reservations can be made 180 days in advance through the Dining Reservation line at 407-934-4241.

Printable: Valentine's Day Subway Art

Well I've recently referenced Valentine's Day so I figure it's time to put out the subway art I made.  Enjoy!

Printable: Lyrics: At The Beginning

It's time for some lyrics.  Lyrics really speak to me and have a way of putting things into perspective or have the words to say things I wish I could say.  I love this song because the lyrics always remind me of the crazy journey Superman (the hubs) and I have been on.  Maybe I'll tell it a little later this month when it's our anniversary.  But an adventure it was and still is.  Enjoy!

Printable: Disney: Disney Couples

It's February, the month of love so when I was deciding which Disney printable to share I figured it could have something to do with love.  What's the best thing about love and Disney? The couples.  Who doesn't love the montage of Carl and Ellie in the beginning of UP.  I mean it makes you cry before you are 30 minutes into the movie.  Even if it's not your favorite you still love to see Tramp and Lady share a meal together.  So here's my Disney couple printable for you.  Enjoy!

Printable: Faith: Faith, Hope and Love

I've had many low times in my life.  And still, looking back on them I haven't pieced together a formula for how I've pulled out of them.  I do know that there were 2 things I always clung too - hope and love.  As I realized I needed God - faith did too.  So here is 2 Corinthians 13:13 to remind us how powerful these are.  It's got a Valentine's Theme to it.  Enjoy!

Printable: Motivational: Appreciate Your Heart

We all have one thing in common.  We all are just trying the best we can.  What I've come to learn is that doing the best you can is different to everyone and as we are all different and unique, I would expect nothing less.  It is nice to be reminded that you are appreciated and the heart you put out there is too.  Share it with someone you appreciate, just the gesture will go a long way.

Disney: Snack Recommendation: Dole Whip

If you've done any research into what's delicious in Disney then I have no doubt you've seen these two words - Dole Whip.  This absolutely deserves all the hype that it gets. It's ice cream.  Delicious soft serve ice cream.  You can get it in vanilla, pineapple or orange.  They also have a Dole Whip Float where you can pick your ice cream and they put in pineapple juice.  So you start eating this creamy, tantalizing treat and then you reach juice! I can't even! You say but it's only ice cream and juice and I say then you haven't tried it because you have to have tried it to know that there is nothing else like it out there. It's amazing.  It was worth all the time I had to stand in line.  All 3 of us loved it and already know our first night, when we get in later in the evening, we're going to have some Dole Whip.  You can find it...
Aloha Isle - Magic Kingdom
Pineapple Lanai - Polynesian Resort
Tamu Tamu Refreshments - Animal Kingdom
*Pineapple only, but you can get it with rum here*

Look at the yumminess...

The pictures make me want to either hop a flight tonight or climb through my computer.  You can use a snack credit or is a snack under $5.  A Must Eat!

Printable: Teaching: February Writing Prompt

I didn't forget about February!  I hope you've been able to keep up with this.  I noticed that people would comment to my students about what they wrote and they would become excited each month to put out the next one.  It's the month of love so of course it's about what love means to them.
